Española
Modern Quilt Group
Shapes Sampler 2015
This
class is going to take you through the process of making a modern quilt. It’s a
very basic class. Each week we will construct blocks with a new shape so that
you will learn a range of skills. Each of us will end up making a different
collection of blocks throughout the class depending on attendance, how much you
sew outside of class, and preference. Part of modern quilt making is design
work. We will spend the last two weeks creating settings for our blocks and
finishing our quilts.
Fabric and supply
list for class:
(3)
½ yard cuts
(or a
total of 1 ½ yards)
of dark
fabrics
(3)
½ yard cuts (or a total of 1 ½ yards) of light fabrics
The
best way to coordinate fabrics is to choose colors that you like together. I
chose fabrics that are close together on the color wheel. As long as you have
good contrast between the lights and the darks and you like the way they look
next to each other, you’re good. You can get started at the first class with
one light fabric and one dark fabric if it will be difficult for you to acquire
three yards at once. We might need more as the class progresses but also we can
fabric swap and the Española Valley Fiber Arts Center (EVFAC) sells some fabric
cuts also.
